Blackhawk Technical College: To offer Ready, Set, College! workshops

JANESVILLE, WI – Those who have completed their GED/HSED degrees or expect to complete them this May are encouraged to attend Blackhawk Technical College’s Ready, Set, College! workshops that are designed to give them the resources and skills they will need to transition to college.

Blackhawk will hold an informational session on the workshops on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Beloit Center, 600 Henry Ave., Beloit.

The session will address the subjects that will be covered in free workshops that will run from March through August.

Students interested in post-secondary studies will be introduced to BTC’s admissions and career exploration programs; advising and class registration procedures; financial aid and scholarship opportunities; budgeting for college; instructors perspectives; computer resources; and community resources. Students also will hold a session with BTC’s program deans, learn study skills and receive campus tours. Participants also will be matched to a mentor once classes begin for the fall semester.

Participants also will be able to learn if they qualify for financial assistance to help cover costs for the BTC admissions test and application fee.

The following free workshops will be held at the Beloit Center. Attendance is mandatory:

March 3: Program

Orientation/Career Assessment, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

March 17: Application and Financial Aid, 9:00-noon.

March 31: Budgeting for College, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

April 14: Instructor Panel, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

April 28: Computer Resources/Course Registration, 9:00-noon.

May 12: BTC and Community Resources, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

The dates and times for summer workshops involving study skills, dean panel, campus tours and meeting mentors are to be determined.
