FNB Fox Valley: Empowers local students with web-based financial literacy program

Oshkosh, Wis. (October 6, 2014) – Over 500 Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West High School students dedicated more than 2,380 hours last school year to the FNB Fox Valley My Financial Future Program. For the past two academic years First National Bank – Fox Valley (FNB Fox Valley) has sponsored student access to EverFi-Financial Literacy™, a web based resource focused on teaching the basics of personal finance. Using the latest in new media technology – simulations, avatars, gaming and adaptive pathing – FNB Fox Valley has brought complex financial concepts to life for students in the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD).

“The OASD has made significant gains in helping our students learn the skills necessary to make positive choices in how they manage their finances throughout the different stages of their life. EverFi is a key curriculum tool that engages students in learning those skills,” says Julie Mosher, Director of Curriculum and Assessment for OASD.

The 10-unit course offers approximately seven hours of programming covering a variety of relevant financial topics including credit scores, insurance, student loans, taxes, stocks, 401k’s and other critical concepts that map to state and national financial literacy standards. The course uniquely tracks progress to ensure that each student has a positive experience. Students who successfully complete the course earn their EverFi Certification in Financial Literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.

The FNB Fox Valley My Financial Future Program impacted 533 Oshkosh Area students this past school year. FNB Fox Valley is proud to bring this important resource to the community in an effort to help students become more informed and financially responsible citizens, and has committed to fund the program annually through the 2017-2018 school year.

“Financial education is critical, especially at the high school level,” says Peter Prickett, President and CEO of FNB Fox Valley. “Preparing students to effectively manage a budget, maintain strong credit, and plan for their future is an essential piece of their education that will follow them throughout their lives. We’re happy to help provide tools that promote financial wellness and responsibility in young people.”

Prickett will attend the October 8th Oshkosh School Board meeting where he and FNB Fox Valley will be recognized for their contributions to the EverFi financial literacy program.
