Wisconsin Business Alliance: Business opportunities of climate change

Business owners and the general public are invited to an upcoming free event, “Carbon 101: Why your business should care.” Join EPA Region 5 administrator Susan Hedman and trail-blazing business leaders to learn about the EPA’s proposed Clean Power Plan, why carbon monitoring and reduction is important, and how your firm’s carbon reduction efforts can help you stand out from your competition.

The event takes place on October 3, with free refreshments and networking starting at 8am at CUNA Mutual Group, 5810 Mineral Point Road in Madison. The program is geared toward small- to medium-sized business owners, but the general public is welcome to attend.

“Our goal is to inform and inspire businesspeople with practical information they can really use at their firms,” said Lori Compas, executive director of the Wisconsin Business Alliance. “Climate change is in the news a lot these days, and the business community is looking for ways to innovate, increase efficiency, and manage risk.”

The program features brief presentations by EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman and Tom Eggert of the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council, followed by a diverse panel offering practical experience and inspiration for all business owners, large and small. Panelists include Amanda Cunningham from Kohl’s Department Stores, Cheryl Wiesensel from the UW Credit Union, Matt Frank from Murphy Desmond S.C., Brian Duzan from Uniek Inc., and Lisa Geason-Bauer of Evolution Marketing. Korinne Haeffel of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance will moderate the panel.

The event will wrap up with more networking time and an optional tour of CUNA Mutual Group’s sustainability features.

Admission is free, but pre-registration is required and photo ID must be presented to security staff upon entry. Go to WisconsinBusinessAlliance.com/Carbon101 to register and view the full program.
