Lt. Gen. Phillips joins PNL board of directors

Monona, Wis. – Phoenix Nuclear Labs (PNL) announced today that retired Army Lt. Gen. William Phillips has joined its seven-member board of directors.

Phillips recently retired after nearly 38 years of service and currently resides in Alexandria, Va. Over the course of his career, Phillips served as an aviator, an acquisition commander in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as the highest-ranking military acquisition officer in the Army.

“I’m excited and inspired to join the team at Phoenix Nuclear Labs,” said Phillips. “The company’s impressive technologies have the potential to make a major positive impact on the military, particularly in the areas of IED detection and non-destructive inspection of munitions and other mission-critical system components. I’m thrilled by this opportunity to continue to serve my country in retirement by helping PNL implement new technologies desperately needed by our warfighters.”

A native of Tennessee, Phillips began his Army career in 1976. He has held a number of roles critical to transforming Army aviation and acquisition, including deputy program executive officer (PEO) for aviation at Redstone Arsenal; program executive officer for ammunition and commanding general of Picatinny Arsenal; commander joint contracting command Iraq and Afghanistan; and principal military deputy to the assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology.

“PNL is fortunate to have someone with General Phillips’ level of military experience and expertise working with us,” said Ross Radel, president of PNL. “We have a lot of great scientists and engineers, and General Phillips will complement our technological progress with the decades of on-the-ground experience that we need to tailor our products and services to best meet the needs of our Armed Forces.”

PNL’s neutron generator technology has broad applicability across medicine, energy and national defense sectors. The company has worked on projects for NASA, the Air Force, the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation, and it is presently working with the Army to further develop technologies to protect warfighters by making their equipment safer, more efficient, and more reliable.
