MADISON, WI – September 4, 2014 – First Business is pleased to announce The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as the winner of the 2014 First Business Invitational for Charity. The nonprofit organization will receive a check for $39,000 thanks to local business leaders Mike Gustafson and Glen Weyenberg of SVA Certified Public Accountants who participated in and won the “winner takes all” First Business Invitational for Charity golf event at Hawks Landing yesterday.

The First Business Invitational is a forum where local business leaders compete for a local charity of their choice. The event was designed with two person teams competing in a best ball format. First Business Bank covers 100 percent of the event costs. “This event combines two great qualities of business leaders: the competitive spirit and the desire to make a difference,” says Mark Meloy, President and CEO of First Business Bank.

After the tournament, profit and non-profit business leaders met at a reception at Hawks Landing while the results were verified. “All of us at Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are so grateful to First Business and the players that chose our charity. What a great concept,” commented Michael Havlicek, Executive Director of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. “All of the charities chosen today were worthy of this prize. We are truly grateful to Mike and Glen for making our mission, their mission as well.”

“We are so excited that this money is going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,” added Glen Weyenberg, of SVA Certified Public Accountants. “We lost a coworker, Stephanie Kalata-Zangl, to this disease and we hope the money we won today helps to find a cure.”

“We are so glad we finally won for our charity,” added Mike Gustafson of SVA Certified Public Accountants. “It was a great day! Such a good event and fun concept.”

Additional prizes were given out this year, including a check for $1,500 to Susan G. Koman South Central Wisconsin played for by Steven Yeko of The Diamond Center and Jack Bussa of S&J 515 Gammon LLC.

2014 marks the fourth year of this event and a total of $180,000 has been awarded to local charities during that time through the event.
