SECOND HARVEST FOODBANK ANNOUNCES GO ORANGE & HUNGER ACTION MONTH

MADISON, Wis., September 2, 2014 – Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin announces that Thursday, September 4 is Hunger Action Day and encourages community members to “Go Orange” in an effort to raise awareness for the 140,000 people who struggle with hunger in southwestern Wisconsin.

It’s part of Hunger Action Month, a month-long campaign in September to raise awareness for the hunger-relief work led by Second Harvest Foodbank locally and the Feeding America food bank network across the country.

On September 4, individuals, businesses, organizations, schools and faith-based groups are invited to wear orange (the symbolic color for hunger), take a photo and post it to Facebook.com/NBC15Madison using #Orange4SHFB and #HungerAction.

“We need the community’s support to end hunger,” said Dan Stein, President/CEO of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. “Through Go Orange, thousands of meals will be raised for families, children and seniors facing hunger.”

For every photo posted, Second Harvest will receive a donation of 30 meals from Lands’ End and Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. The goal is to generate 30,000 meals (1,000 photos).

“As one of southern Wisconsin’s largest employers, we are committed to supporting events that directly benefit our community,” said Edgar Huber, CEO and President, Lands’ End. “Lands’ End has a history of supporting local food banks, and we hope our partnership with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin will make a difference during Hunger Action Month.”
