IPC Nordic Skiing launches new website and video for Cable 2015 World Championships

Preparations for the biggest gathering of international athletes since Sochi 2014 continue with the launch of the competition website and promotional video.

A new website and trailer for the 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships in Cable, USA, have been launched on Friday (11 July) as preparations for the biggest gathering of international athletes since Sochi 2014 continues.

Cable 2015, which takes place from 22 January – 1 February, is expected to gather around 150 athletes from 20 countries less than one year after the most successful Paralympic Winter Games ever took place in Sochi, Russia.

The new website will be the place to find news and interviews, athlete profiles and competition information for the event in the state of Wisconsin.

The video demonstrates why the Telemark Resort, the starting point of the world-famous American Birkbeiner, has been selected as the venue for the competition which incorporates both biathlon and cross-country.

The resort, which sits along the nearly one million acre Chequamegon National Forest, boasts over 300km of groomed cross-country ski trails.

Yuriy Gusev of the Central Cross Country Ski Association, the organizers of Cable 2015, said: “The trail system at Telemark is a perfect fit for events of this magnitude and the welcoming community is playing a big part in support of this event.”

Dimitrije Lazarovski, Head of IPC Snow Sports, is also looking forward to the event: “The World Championships will gather multiple world and Paralympic champions in a top-quality, internationally recognized venue.

“The new website is filled with the latest information about the competition and we hope to continue working with the organizers to stage the best Championships ever.

“Not only will it provide athletes with a platform to demonstrate their incredible endurance and skill, but we also hope it will be a festival of sport that can be enjoyed by fans and the media as well.”

Big names likely to compete at the Worlds include the USA’s Oksana Masters, looking to follow-up on her double cross-country sit-skiing podium from her Winter Paralympic debut at Sochi 2014.

Cable 2015 will also play host to Sochi’s most decorated athlete, Russia’s five-time biathlon and cross-country gold medalist Roman Petushkov. Entering his fourth successive World Championships, Petushkov will be on the hunt for his third world title.
