Madison, WI, May 21, 2014 – The horn goes off on the first race of the 2014 Fleet Feet

Aquathon Series this Thursday at 7PM with onsite registration at 6PM. The Aquathon

starts with a 1000 meter (.62 mile) swim in Lake Mendota. Athletes then change into shoes

on the beach, then run a tough out and back 5k through Warner Park before finishing back

at Warner Park Beach.

“The Aquathon series was developed to provide swimmers, runners, and triathletes a

challenging chip timed race atmosphere during the week and give aspiring triathletes a

chance to hone their skills. The 1 kilometer swim and 5 kilometer run are comparable

lengths for strong multisport athletes,” according to Derek Scheer, the race director for

Race Day Events , the company that organizes the race.

This week’s race is presented by Madison Multisport LLC, a Madison based triathlon

team. Cindi Bannink, head coach of Madison Multisport sees the Aquathon Series Races

as “a great opportunity for new and seasoned athletes to practice their race day skills and

get in a tough workout. It is a fun and supportive environment to gain skills and comfort in

open water swimming, practice transitions and get after a fast 5K.”

The Fleet Feet Aquathon Series is comprised of five Thursday night races held at Warner

Park Beach in Madison throughout the summer. These multisport races are similar to

triathlons but without the bike leg. They are becoming more popular throughout the nation

and the Madison series features many nationally ranked triathletes making it exciting for

spectators and athletes alike.
