DE PERE, WIS.: Kevin G. Quinn, associate academic dean and professor of economics, has been named founding dean of the Donald J. Schneider School of Business and Economics at St. Norbert College. The college announced in February that Pat Schneider, wife of Don, donated $7 million to establish the School of Business and Economics, as well as a new Master of Business Administration program, at St. Norbert College in honor of her late husband. The MBA program is expected to start in the fall of 2015.

“It is a significant honor to have been chosen as the founding dean of St. Norbert’s new Donald J. Schneider School of Business and Economics,” said Quinn. “It’s not every day that one gets to help build and lead something that will have a positive impact for many decades on students and our community.”

The new school will be composed of the college’s existing business administration and economics departments, as well as new faculty and staff who will be hired as part of the expansion and launch of the M.B.A. program. Quinn will oversee the operation of the Schneider School.

In his current role as associate academic dean, Quinn oversees general education and other curricular programs at St. Norbert College. Quinn’s new position as founding dean of the Donald J. Schneider School of Business and Economics includes leadership of the business and economics faculty, which had been a part of his of his responsibilities when he served as the college’s associate dean of social sciences.

Quinn has been at St. Norbert College since 1994. He earned as B.S. in 1983 in physics and mathematics from Loyola University in Chicago, and an MBA in marketing and economics from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1989.

Quinn worked in private industry from 1983 to 1990, in aerospace and medical imaging, before returning to UIC to complete his Ph.D. in energy and environmental economics.

His primary research focus over the last few years has been in the field of sports economics. He is a regular guest economist on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network and is also host of the television show “Conversations from St. Norbert College,” airing throughout Wisconsin and parts of Michigan. Quinn’s book, “Sports and Their Fans,” which examines the history, economics and culture of the relationship between spectator and sport, grew out of material that he had gathered for his economics students.
