Donation Drive: Underway to benefit DIAS

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Madison is proud to lead an effort each spring in which we collect donations for moms in crisis called Movers for Moms. Donations are collected at schools, daycares and other community partners throughout April and then delivered to Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) shortly before Mother’s Day.

We seek items to make Mother’s Day special for moms living in shelters. The donations can include nice soaps, hair styling products, shampoos and conditioners, pillows, blankets, slippers and other basic clothing items. The boxes were set up March 31, and donations will be picked up Friday, May 9 (the Friday before Mother’s Day).

Heartbreaking statistics from the Domestic Violence Resource Center state that one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. According to a national study from the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, approximately 25 percent of homeless women are homeless because of violence in the home.
