World Water Week 2014

$1 Today…Clean Lakes Tomorrow

MADISON, Wis. — The Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA) invites community members of all ages to join in World Water Week by dining at local participating restaurants from Friday, March 21 through Sunday, March 30.

World Water Week will highlight the importance of all water to local quality of life. Guests dining at participating establishments in the greater Madison area will be invited to donate $1 for the drinking water normally provided free of charge. These donations will help the CLA improve water quality in the Yahara River watershed. Madison is a city uniquely situated on an isthmus in the midst of a chain of lakes, and our community is committed to preserving these natural assets.

World Water Week raises awareness and support for the CLA’s water quality improvement efforts. A single pound of phosphorus can produce 500 pounds of algae, which inhibits lake recreation and enjoyment, negatively impacts the lake ecosystem, and can pose public health risks. Donations will fund CLA’s educational programs and volunteer opportunities, as well as projects that reduce phosphorus in both agricultural and urban areas.

Last year, participating restaurants and sponsors raised over $14,000 for CLA’s lake efforts. A full list of participating restaurants can be found below. World Water Week is produced by the CLA in partnership with Spectrum Brands, Madison Water Utility and Culligan Total Water.
