UW Oshkosh hosts Career Fair on the Fox today

UW Oshkosh, March 4 – The goal of the biannual Career Fair on the Fox: provide opportunities for hundreds of students looking to extend and strengthen their professional connections.

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Career Services and Fox Valley Technical College Employment Services are teaming up for Career Fair on the Fox, held at UW Oshkosh’s Kolf Sports Center today, March 4, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

New this year is the Career Fair+ app, a mobile application aimed at helping today’s technologically savvy students better navigate through the fair and its offerings. The app gives students the opportunity to view and learn more about companies attending the event, the available positions the partner companies are offering, career fair tips and an event map.

“Downloading the Career Fair+ App prior to the Career Fair can give students an edge in preparing to navigate the fair in a more organized way. Students can research organizations attending the fair ahead of time and begin to think about how they can strategically meet the employers they want in a short amount of time,” said Chrissy Lambie, Career Services team member.

At the Career Fair, students will be able to connect with employers to learn about: full- and part-time positions, internships, co-ops, practicums, volunteering and networking opportunities. They can also distribute their resumes to employers and receive a resume critique.

“We strongly believe in the power of networking and want to encourage our students to start early in developing their personal network and brand with our employers. Even if students aren’t ready to start searching for opportunities it never hurts to attend just to get a feel for things, to get an understanding of how the event works, how to navigate so when it does matter it won’t be such an overwhelming experience,” Lambie said.

Another great aspect to the fair is “Internship Connect,” which runs from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., offering students interested in internships with nonprofits and start-up companies to network. At Internship Connect, employers have an opportunity to talk about their offered internship and attendees have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers.

There will also be a photo booth at this year’s Career Fair, where students are encouraged to get a free head shot to use as a professional picture.
