Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau: Tourism secretary Stephanie Klett presented
with ten new Travel Green Wisconsin applications in Bayfield

Bayfield bolsters its efforts to lead Wisconsin into a sustainable future

Ten business owners presented Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett with Travel Green applications Tuesday in Bayfield, reaffirming the Northwestern Wisconsin community’s commitment to lead Wisconsin into a sustainable future.

Secretary Klett and Travel Green Program Manager Shelly Allness were in attendance for a ribbon cutting at Apostle Highlands Golf Course when Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau Executive Director Cari Obst surprised them with the presentation of ten applications. “We are so proud of the Bayfield area for their continued commitment to Travel Green Wisconsin. Receiving ten new certification applications at one time is a great accomplishment, and a first for the program,” said Shelly Allness. “We are grateful for the way the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders have championed and embraced Travel Green Wisconsin since the very beginning.” Photo caption: Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett accepts a Travel Green Wisconsin application for the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau’s Festival of Arts. Among the business owners present to extend applications were: Apostle Highlands Weddings, Kelly & Crew, Bayfield Wine and Spirits, Pike’s Bay Marina, Cooper Hill House Bed and Breakfast, Cozy Nook Bed and Breakfast, Apostle Islands Marina and the Bayfield City Dock, and Apostle Islands Booksellers. Other applications included a renewal from The Bayfield Inn and an event application from the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau for its July Festival of Arts.

“This visit was a great opportunity to see all of Bayfield’s new tourism developments,” said Secretary Klett. “The community is doing all the right things to grow tourism by enhancing the visitor experience and going after niche markets such as weddings. In addition, another ten area businesses are applying for Travel Green Wisconsin certification, yet another reason why Bayfield leads the state as an eco-friendly destination.”

The state’s Travel Green Wisconsin certification program is a voluntary, affordable certification program that reviews, certifies, and recognizes tourism businesses that have made a commitment to continuously improve their operations in order to reduce their environmental impact.

The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau currently has over 40 Travel Green certified businesses among its 420 active members from throughout the Bayfield peninsula. Pending the approval of the 10 newly submitted applications, this total will rise to 50, securing Bayfield’s place as one of the state’s leaders in sustainable business practices.
