MADISON - David Mladenoff, the Beers-Bascom Professor in Conservation in the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology, has received the 2012 Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award.

The highest honor bestowed by the U.S. chapter of the International Association for Landscape Ecology, this award recognizes an individual whose thinking and writing have helped shape the field of landscape ecology.

Mladenoff broadly studies the ecology and management of forest ecosystems. His research team uses a variety of approaches, including modeling, remote sensing, and field studies, to address questions about land use and management practices, climate change effects, forest sustainability and biodiversity, and wildlife populations.

Mladenoff is a former editor and current advisor for the journal Landscape Ecology. He holds three degrees from UW-Madison and has been a professor here since 1994.
