Television Wisconsin is proud to announce that Neil Heinen, Editorial Director for WISC-TV and Editor of Madison Magazine, has been elected Secretary of the National Conference of Editorial Writers. This honor sets Heinen up to assume acting as the organization’s president in 2008, a role that has been held by only one other broadcaster in the 60-year history of the NCEW.
Also elected to serve with Heinen are: Pete Kohler, Director of Editorials for New York’s Cablevision; Pat Widder, editorial writer for the Chicago Tribune; and Becca Rothschild, associate editor of the Detroit Free Press’s editorial page.
WISC-TV General Manager David Sanks comments on Heinen’s appointment: “Neil’s election to this prestigious board further underscores his position as an opinion leader not only here in South Central Wisconsin, but nationally. Neil’s credibility as a journalist has earned him the respect of individuals across this nation, many who have been or are members of NCEW. We are extremely proud of Neil’s accomplishments as a fair and objective journalist, opinion watchdog, and community leader.”
Mr. Heinen has been with Television Wisconsin since 1987 and has been editorial director since 1992. He joined the staff of Madison Magazine as senior political writer in 2000 and became the magazine’s 4th editor in March 2004.
