Registration Open for February Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin Workshops

MADISON – For local food producers interested in learning more about selling to retail, register now for one of the following Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin 2011 Regional Workshop Roadshows. The “Selling to Retail” workshops will be held in February 2011 in East Troy, Viroqua, and Menomonie.

Lois Federman, the Director of the Something Special from Wisconsin™ program, will present about accessing local markets, connecting buyers and sellers, and creating your own action plan. Local grocery buyers and managers will also discuss their experiences selling local products.

All workshops are 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Dates and locations for the “Selling to Retail” workshops are:

* Monday, February 14, 2011 in East Troy

* Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Viroqua

* Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Menomonie

In Viroqua and Menomonie, the cost is $30 for the first registration and $15 for any additional registrations in the party. The cost for East Troy is $40 per registration. To get a registration brochure or more information, contact Theresa Feiner at theresa.feiner@wisconsin.gov or 608-224-5112.

These workshops are the second in a series planned for 2011. “Selling to Institutions” will be held in March. Also in March, food safety experts will conduct several seminars around the state to provide producers on-farm food safety training and tools to a food safety program, including information on the recently passed Food Safety Modernization Act. More details will be released when available.
