MADISON – A strong Wisconsin agricultural tradition continues as applications are now available to be the 64th Alice in Dairyland. Interested individuals must apply by Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. to be considered.

“As an agri-marketer, communicator, and educator, Alice in Dairyland encourages residents to buy Wisconsin products and to learn more about how their food was produced,” said Christine Lindner, the 63rd Alice in Dairyland. “Alice brings our state’s $59 billion agriculture industry into the daily lives of Wisconsinites.”

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time contract position with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Applicants must be Wisconsin residents and at least 21 years of age as of June 1, 2011. The Alice in Dairyland needs to have a passion for agriculture and strong public speaking skills. Because of the professional demands of this position, at least three years of education, training, or experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a combination of these is required. Experience in planning and executing public relations, marketing, and media campaigns is a plus.

During her year, Alice in Dairyland will travel about 40,000 miles as a spokesperson for Wisconsin’s food, fiber, and biofuel industries. She will also present hundreds of speeches, provide more than 100 media interviews, and visit thousands of students. Alice in Dairyland speaks to rural and urban audiences to discuss Wisconsin’s agricultural commodities, products, and issues.

The 64th Alice in Dairyland will begin work June, 1, 2011. This contract position receives a $40,000 annual salary including holiday, vacation, and sick leave. Compensation for a health insurance premium up to $450 a month and reimbursement for professional travel expenses is also provided.

The 64th Alice in Dairyland will be selected during the finals May 12 – 14, 2011 in Waushara County. The selection process includes a series of professional interviews, speeches, and presentations.
