MADISON—Department of Commerce Secretary Aaron Olver today announced that 42 Wisconsin agencies will receive $1.525 million in awards through the State Shelter Subsidy Grant program administered by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce (Commerce).

“Considerable efforts have been made across the state to minimize shelter usage but It is still vitally important to continue to support emergency shelters and motel voucher programs so they are available for homeless persons,” Secretary Olver said. “This year, we’re providing funding for our continuing local partners as well as for two additional agencies. I applaud the work of these agencies to provide these critical services.”

The State Shelter Subsidy Grant Program has been providing operating budget support of shelter facilities or homeless voucher programs since 1985. The program is open to homeless provider agencies. These funds provide a consistent funding source to supplement the fundraising of emergency shelter programs around the state.
