MADISON – Today, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) approved an increase in Superior Water, Light and Power Company electric, gas and water rates. Utility customers will see a 0.68 percent increase for electric, a 12.7 percent increase for water and a 2.5 percent increase for natural gas in 2011.

The adjustment to electric, water and gas rates covers cost of service increases essential for the utility to produce and provide electric, water and gas to customers. The average residential customer can expect a $1 increase on their monthly electric bill, a $5.40 increase on their monthly water bill, and a $2.10 increase on their monthly gas bill in 2011.

When a utility requests a change in rates, the PSC conducts a thorough audit of the utility’s expenses and revenues. In preparing for today’s decision, the PSC considered the amount Superior Water, Light and Power Company needed to provide a reliable source of electricity, water and gas to its customers.

The Commission will issue a written order to finalize today’s decision at a later date.
