With the click of a mouse, community can help eliminate hunger

MADISON, Wis. — Summit Credit Union is holding a new Facebook promotion in conjunction with its partnership with the 15th annual NBC15 Share Your Holidays to Eliminate Hunger food drive.

Here’s how it works: If Summit reaches 1,500 “fans” on its Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/summitdomore) by the end of the Share Your Holidays campaign on Dec. 12, 2010, it will donate $1 per new fan to Share Your Holidays ($1,000 total), which will feed 2,730 area families in need. Already a Facebook fan of Summit? You can still participate by simply sharing the page with your online communities and encouraging them to “like” Summit’s DoMore Facebook page as well.

Summit has been partnering with the NBC15 Share Your Holidays food drive for four years. This is the first time Summit has held a social media promotion in conjunction with the Share Your Holidays campaign, which kicked off on Nov. 5, 2010.

About NBC15 Share Your Holidays:

2010 marks the 15th year for NBC15 Share Your Holidays to eliminate hunger. Southwestern Wisconsin’s largest food/fund drive campaign has raised more than 19 million meals for families facing hunger since its inception in 1996.

Spanning six weeks each year, the NBC15 Share Your Holidays campaign provides opportunities for corporations, organizations, schools and individuals to raise funds, food and awareness for hunger relief. With the 15th anniversary comes the challenge to raise more meals than ever. Second Harvest Foodbank’s Hunger in Southwestern Wisconsin 2010 study revealed 83 percent more people are in need of hunger relief each year compared to 2006.
