NEW NORTH, September 24, 2010 – A new report from Coldwell Banker on average home prices shows that Fond du Lac and Green Bay are among the most affordable communities in the country.

The report examined the costs of four-bedroom, two-bath homes in nearly 300 communities nationwide, and found that Fond du Lac was the 11th most affordable with an average price of approximately $120,000, and Green Bay was 34th at $164,000. Appleton was also in the top 35% of communities, ranked 102nd with an average price of $218,000.

“Affordable homes are just one of many reasons why the New North is such a great place to raise a family,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc. “When you combine the low cost of living with our great schools, safe communities, and excellent recreational opportunities, it all adds up to the New North being one of the best places to live in the country.”

Other Wisconsin communities on the list included Wausau (32nd), Eau Claire (46th), Milwaukee (62nd), and Madison (183rd).

Green Bay was also named one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People” earlier this week by America’s Promise Alliance – the city’s third time on the list since the rankings began six years ago. The organization noted Green Bay’s Partners in Education program, which help provide a positive, learning environment in which children in the city can grow and develop.
