Each year, JPMA sponsors Baby Safety Month in September and this year, JPMA is helping educate parents and caregivers on the importance of creating a safe sleep environment. In addition to providing local hospitals, clinics and non-profits with educational information and training, select organizations, medical providers and government officials will commit themselves to promoting safe sleep by signing a Crib Safety Declaration and JPMA members are donating more than $150,000 worth of sleep-related products for families in need. Baby Safety Month started in 1983 when JPMA initiated “Expectant Mother’s Day.” In 1986, it was extended to a week long celebration, until 1991, when JPMA sponsored the first “Baby Safety Awareness Month.” Since then, every September has been designated as Baby Safety Month.
Please join JPMA and New Threads of Hope to celebrate Baby Safety Month and promote Safe Sleep. JPMA Chair Brenda Berg will be in attendance and available for interviews. Also in attendance will be New Threads of Hope President Dennis J. Brand and Common Council President Willie L. Hines, Jr. –15th District Alderman.
