1-Day Conference set for October 5th in Eau Claire

The 2010 Synergy Conference for west central and northwest Wisconsin will occur on Tuesday, October 5th at the Plaza Conference Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The annual conference brings together regional leaders from business and higher education in an effort to build a stronger economic region and workforce, promote entrepreneurship, and connect businesses. It also provides a venue to advance innovative ideas and to share best business and leadership practices.

Two keynote speakers at the conference will offer global and regional economic perspectives. Richard Longworth, a senior fellow for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, will start the conference. He will discuss the midwest’s uncertain economic, political and social situation and what can be done to survive and prosper. Longworth is a former senior correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and has been nominated twice for a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on economics. He is the author of Caught in the Middle: America’s Heartland in the Age of Globalism.

John Monson will speak at 9:45 a.m. He is a vice president of rural capital markets for AgStar Financial Services and is a former executive director of the federal Farm Service Agency in Minnesota. Monson will discuss ways that public and private sectors can collaborate to foster economic development.

Other speakers include Noel Eggebratten, president of Momentum West, Maliyakal E. John, managing director of the WiSys Technology Foundation, and Joe Kremer, director of the Wisconsin Angel Network (WEN).
