Wisconsin Technical College System Board: Recognizes Johnson Controls with ‘Futuremakers Partner Award’

MILWAUKEE – Johnson Controls received the “Futuremakers Partner Award” from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board. The presentation was part of the WTCS Board meeting held June 29-30 in Milwaukee. The award recognizes organizations that partner with technical colleges in pursuit of strong futures through sustainable jobs.

System President Dan Clancy presented the award to Johnson Controls for the company’s significant financial and workforce investment, which in turn, helps increase the economic vitality of the southeastern Wisconsin region. The award was made at the recommendation of Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), who works in close partnership with Johnson Controls on a number of sustainability initiatives that benefit incumbent and future energy workers.

“We are proud to recognize Johnson Controls as a Futuremakers Partner Award recipient,” said Clancy. “MATC and Johnson Controls have had a long history of partnership that has resulted in a number of innovative collaborative projects that are transforming technical education and training in the energy industry.” Johnson Controls Building Efficiency is a leading provider of equipment, controls and services for heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and security systems for buildings. Operating from 500 branch offices in 150 countries, the company delivers products, services and solutions that increase energy efficiency and lower operating costs for over one million customers. Johnson Controls is involved in more than 500 renewable energy projects including solar, wind and geothermal technologies and has solutions that have reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 13.6 million metric tons and generated savings of $7.5 billion since 2000. Many of the world’s largest companies rely on Johnson Controls to manage 1.5 billion square feet of their commercial real estate.

David Bishop, Metro General Manager of Building Efficiency and President of the MATC Foundation Board of Directors, and Jeff Roepsch, Life Cycle Program Manager, represented Johnson Controls with Murphy.

“In my brief time at MATC, I have realized how fortunate we are to have a partner like Johnson Controls,” commented MATC President Dr. Michael L. Burke. “They have worked on a number of key initiatives, such as the Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) Center and the Photovoltaic Educational Laboratory, that uniquely position MATC in our state, region and nation. I was proud to sign the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment because of our partnership with Johnson Controls. The company’s innovation and commitment have opened the doors to countless new opportunities for MATC and our students.

The Wisconsin Technical College System has 16 technical college districts throughout Wisconsin, which offer more than 300 programs awarding two-year associate degrees, one and two-year technical diplomas and short-term technical diplomas. In addition, the System is the major provider of customized training and technical assistance to Wisconsin’s business and industry community.
