Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce: Scholarships awarded

CONTACTS: Amy Hansen, CPACC (608-843-3166)

The 2010 Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce (CPACC) Scholarships were awarded at the CPACC Chicken Barbeque on Memorial Day. This is the tenth year CPACC has awarded scholarships. The scholarships were awarded in the amount of $500 each to two area students.

This year’s winners were Laura McGinnis and Morgan Hormig. Both girls will be graduating from Middleton High School and live in Cross Plains. Laura has been very successful in local sports; she is also part of DECA, Best Buddies (a tutoring program at Middleton High), and volunteers with church groups. Laura will be volunteering with a Special Education tutoring program this summer and plans to major in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also hopes to coach sports. Morgan has been very active with the local swim team and at the Cross Plains Pool. She has tutored at Middleton High and has volunteered at numerous venues such as YMCA, Crazy Legs, St Martins, and Family Fun Night at the CP Fire Station. She is hoping to become a physician assistant.

The applications were evaluated based on community service, student activities, scholastic achievements, and work experience/future employment goals. To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant (or parent of the applicant) must live or work in the Village of Cross Plains, the Town of Cross Plains or the Town of Berry. In addition, the applicant is expected to attend a technical school, college or university upon graduation. Thank you to our judges; Erica Schlicht, Dan Purtell, Jim Schmitt, Adam Valenta, Michael Pomykalski, & Amy Hansen.

Congratulations to the scholarship winners!
