Larger, more impactful video scoreboard – with three times more display space than current JumboTron – to ‘dramatically enhance’ fan experience for Bradley Center sports and entertainment events

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Bradley Center Sports & Entertainment Corporation today announced it has selected Texas-based TS Sports to produce a state-of-the-art, custom-designed video scoreboard system to be installed at the Bradley Center before the start of the 2010-11 season. Bradley Center President Steve Costello said the $3.2 million, center-hung scoreboard will have three times the display space of the current scoreboard and feature 12 high-resolution video panels – allowing for brighter colors, sharper images, more exciting special effects and expanded sponsor messages and game stats that will “dramatically enhance” the fan experience.

“The new Bradley Center scoreboard system is being designed specifically for our venue and will help create a more dynamic, vibrant and exciting atmosphere for basketball, hockey and other sports and entertainment events,” Costello said. “All of our tenants, our board and staff are very excited about this new centerpiece, which will dramatically enhance the experience of fans in every seat in the house.”

The new scoreboard will replace the nearly 15-year-old Sony JumboTron that has hung in the Bradley Center since 1995. The new board will be 29 feet tall, 32 feet wide and weigh approximately 50,000 pounds. Its 12 video panels – including three, wrap-around marquees that will be the only ones of their kind in the NBA – will contain more than 3.5 million individual light-emitting diodes, 15 times the LEDs in the current scoreboard. Virtually every viewable surface will have the ability to change during an event to deliver live game video, game scores, game and player statistics, the play clock, animated graphics, sponsor messages, videos and more.

The Bradley Center and its tenants – the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee Admirals and Marquette University – worked with a number of consultants and designers to develop a scoreboard system that serves the Bradley Center’s unique needs, Costello said. The scoreboard will be used for all athletic events, as well as select shows, concerts and community events,” he added.

“This new scoreboard system will have a tremendous impact on everyone who passes through the Bradley Center gates,” Costello said. “It’s really much more than a scoreboard – it’s a state-of-the-art video display that will provide information, entertainment, new sponsorship opportunities and a fun, interactive experience for fans no matter where they’re seated. As we gear up for another exciting Bradley Center season, this is one change that everyone will notice.”

The system’s $3.2 million cost includes the scoreboard; a new hoist system; and related video production equipment and custom software. Costello said that some of the funding for the new system would come from a recently approved $5 million state bonding grant.

“The Bradley Center was a gift to the people of Wisconsin by the late Jane Bradley Pettit, and installation of this new, state-of-the-art scoreboard is a wonderful way to enhance and extend the life of that gift for millions more fans to enjoy,” he said. “We are glad to be working with TS Sports to ensure the Bradley Center remains a dynamic testament to Mrs. Pettit’s vision for the future.”

Components of the new scoreboard will be built and assembled this summer and installed before the start of the 2010-11 season, Costello said. The Bradley Center will plan a public unveiling when the scoreboard is in place, he added.

TS Sports has developed scoreboards and other lighting display systems for sports and entertainment facilities across the country, including the American Airlines Center in Dallas and The Ohio State University. The Bradley Center scoreboard was designed by Virginia-based Anthony James Partners and features LED displays by Lighthouse Technologies, a leading provider of innovative LED systems.

“We are very excited about partnering with the Bradley Center for this state-of-the-art LED system,” said Matt Ritter, vice president of sales for TS Sports. “This will be one of the most dynamic systems in professional sports, and we’re looking forward to bringing it to Milwaukee and the people of Wisconsin.”
