NEW NORTH, June 1, 2010 – The New North, Inc. on Wednesday announced the winners of the first New North Student Photography Contest, which asked students in the region to capture photos that best exemplified the New North’s six key initiatives.
Over 700 students from 15 schools submitted their photos, with the first place winner in each category receiving $200 based on online votes at the competition website. The winners were:

All winners were also entered as a finalist for the $3000 grand prize scholarship, which was awarded by a panel of New North judges based on the ability of the entrant to capture the essence of the New North, as well as overall creativity, quality, and composition of the photograph.
Corrissa Buechner, 19, a photojournalism student at UW-Manitowoc, was awarded the grand prize and will have her photo, titled “Innocence,” featured in New North publications and on the New North website.
Buechner said her photo “represents the beauty of the area,” as well as the importance of “educating [the new generation] and guiding them to make the right choices.”
