MADISON—Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Manitowoc, Manitowoc County, has received a $384,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to help reconstruct 10th Street and install related infrastructure.

“My administration is committed to investing in local development projects and helping our communities continue moving forward,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased the state could provide assistance to help Manitowoc undertake an important streets improvement project.”

Since taking office in 2003, Governor Doyle has worked aggressively to help grow Wisconsin’s economy, help businesses create and retain jobs, and position the state for future growth. Governor Doyle’s budget last year created some of the strongest economic development tools in the nation to help businesses create jobs and get people back to work. Wisconsin now has powerful new tax credits to help manufacturers create and retain jobs, new tools to help investors create start-ups, and new incentives to spur research and development.

The City of Manitowoc will reconstruct 10th Street, a main passageway connecting the south side of the city to downtown. The city will also install new storm and sanitary sewer facilities and water mains. The infrastructure work will improve street conditions and resolve drainage problems. Total project cost is $1.9 million.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
