STETSONVILLE, WI – USDA Rural Development, in conjunction with MSA Professional Services, Wisconsin Department of Commerce, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the US Environmental Protection Agency, is holding a ground breaking event here for Stetsonville’s new water and sewer systems in celebration of Earth Day 2010.
The water projects includes a full water system, including two wells, water treatment plant, water distribution system, elevated tower, water meters, meter reading and billings system, and utility computer system. The sewer system will receive rehabilitation and partial replacement of sanitary sewer mains and laterals in the village.
USDA Rural Development approved a loan for $2,109,000 and a grant of $665,000 toward the water system project; and a $629,000 loan and $489,000 grant toward the sewer project. Both projects are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009.
Students from Stetsonville Elementary School are celebrating Earth Day with USDA Rural Development by taking part in an essay contest and a poster contest, then planting a tree.
Earth Day is observed annually on April 22 to raise awareness about the role citizens, businesses and communities can play in protecting the environment. Since the first Earth Day celebration in 1970, the event has expanded to include participation by citizens and governments in more than in 175 countries.
To protect the environment and improve the health of rural families, USDA, through its Rural Development programs, is funding water and wastewater infrastructure projects in rural communities across the country.
