New Parts Now! Course Delivers IT Basics to Printer Technicians

MIDDLETON, Wis. — February 4, 2010 — Forty percent of IT help desk calls are printer-related. Service organizations have a clear opportunity to take on these printer-related calls that have traditionally fallen to the IT help desk. Parts Now! is retooling techs to handle basic IT requests — connectivity, firmware and driver upgrades — through its new Printer Communications course. Parts Now!, the nation’s largest trainer of laser printer service technicians, offers the hands-on, instructor-led course on March 23rd at its training center in Middleton, Wis.

“The market has changed. Technicians are increasingly arriving at printer service calls only to find the repairs are related to software, not the printer itself,” said Steve Geishirt, director of training at Parts Now!. “This course is designed to teach IT basics so that techs can continue to evolve as the market has.”

The new course addresses the basics of connectivity, firmware and driver upgrades so that the entire printer system communicates once a change is made. It will also address network card configuration, printer connectivity from parallel and USB, to the common Ethernet. Students will learn driver installation, setup and troubleshooting of driver issues. Students will need general experience with Microsoft Windows XP or newer operating systems as they will be working in a networked environment installing firmware and drivers along with troubleshooting real-world repair problems.
