Madison – In last evening’s State of the State address, Governor Jim Doyle renewed his commitment to the expansion of renewable energy production in Wisconsin.

“Governor Doyle has provided exceptional leadership to the state of Wisconsin during his two terms as Governor, especially in the area of renewable fuels,” said Joshua Morby, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance. “Governor Doyle truly understands the important role biofuels play in protecting our environment, ending our dependence on foreign oil, and growing our economy.”

Since coming into office in 2003, Governor Doyle has helped support the growth of Wisconsin’s bio industry that now produces nearly 500 million gallons of ethanol, contributing more than $1 billion dollars to the Wisconsin economy and supporting thousands of jobs.

“As Governor Doyle said last night, Wisconsin is a leader in the ethanol production. We look forward to working with him this year in office to continue growing Wisconsin’s bio industry.”

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
