Pewaukee, Wis. – Martin Jannsen, who founded Jannsen & Company, S.C., more than three decades ago, has received a Sterling Award in recognition of his long record of career leadership and success.

The Sterling Awards, an outreach of Interfaith Older Adult Programs of Milwaukee, honor “Achievers Over Sixty” in seven categories. Winners are chosen by the Sterling Awards Committee of Southeastern Wisconsin, whose members represent businesses, non-profit groups and government agencies.

Jannsen, 70, received the Spirit of Work award, given to a nominee “who brings fun, creativity and passion to the workplace.”

“I have always believed in humor in the workplace to reduce stress and provide a fun place to work,” said Jannsen, a practicing accountant for 42 years. “Humor improves your health.”

Jannsen founded Jannsen & Company in 1975. The company has grown into a well-known certified public accounting and business services firm with more than 20 professionals and employees. Besides a full range of CPA and payroll processing services, Jannsen & Company advises businesses on information technology, wealth management and human resources.

Jannsen focuses his practice on tax and financial planning for small businesses and individuals, with an emphasis on retirement planning and post-retirement planning. He holds degrees in accounting, finance and insurance from the University of Iowa.

Susan Hefner nominated Jannsen after learning of the award from a co-worker. Hefner, owner of Medical Assets of Wisconsin, credited Jannsen for his wit, humility, sense of humor and “a sparkle in his eye.”

“When we read the description of the nominee that they were looking for, the first thing I said was ‘That’s Marty,’” Hefner said.

Jannsen has been very active in civic and charitable organizations. He has served in leadership roles with the Potawatomi Area Council and Midwest Region of the Boy Scouts of America, the Waukesha Rotary Club and its Charitable Fund, and the Wisconsin Chapter of Model A Ford Club of America.

The Sterling Awards Committee of Southeastern Wisconsin seeks to promote older workers as an integral part of the work force and create supportive work environments and opportunities for older workers in the metropolitan Milwaukee area. The committee is supported by Interfaith Older Adult Programs, which provides a wide range of programs and services aimed at helping older adults live independent, fulfilling lives.
