MADISON – A short radio spot airing before each Badger football game gives fans a glimpse of recent happenings at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The “UW-Madison Minute” airs on the Badger Sports Radio Network, reaching the entire state of Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota. XM radio subscribers can listen to the spot anywhere in the country.

Hosted by Emily Smolarek, a UW-Madison senior majoring in journalism and mass communications, and the show emphasizes the Wisconsin Idea and research, events and developments on campus that affect people all over the state and beyond.

“We have a statewide listening audience, so these are people we know are Badger sports fans, but they might not realize all the other work that we do outside of Madison, especially the work that directly impacts their lives,” says University Communications marketing director Tricia Dickinson.

To date, Smolarek has interviewed a variety of faculty and staff from the Wisconsin School of Business, the Office of Corporate Relations, the Center for the Humanities and others on topics including the recession, entrepreneurship, the Go Big Read common-reading program and construction on campus.
