Residential customers receive natural gas usage/cost data, Focus on Energy Cash-Back Reward information, energy efficiency tips, and federal tax credit opportunities

MADISON, WI – September 14, 2009 – To help residential customers understand their average daily natural gas usage and cost and learn how to become more energy efficient while taking advantage of cost-saving opportunities, Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, will begin sending the first of more than 100,000 personal natural gas reports this week.

Using the table that includes the average daily natural gas use and cost for the June 2008 through May 2009 timeframe, broken down by month, customers can easily identify how much they are spending during the primary heating and cooling months. The remainder of the report features simple ways to use less energy, and tips on how to make homes more energy efficient.

“When it comes to using energy wisely, there is a great opportunity for us all to find new ways to save money and make changes that will lower our natural gas bills,” said Barbara Swan, WPL President. “This report is important because it provides our customers with information that will allow them to make informed choices on what energy efficiency measures make the most sense for them.”

For customers who want to upgrade to energy-efficient equipment and lighting, the report has information on Cash-Back Rewards from Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s statewide resource for energy efficiency and renewable energy. In addition, there is a section which outlines the availability of tax credits for existing home energy efficiency improvements and an area that provides background on how natural gas prices are determined.

“We hope our customers use this tool to evaluate the energy efficiency of their homes,” Swan added. “To encourage them to keep their furnaces running efficiently, we’ve also included a set of filter change reminder stickers that customers can place on their calendars.”
