MADISON, Wis. — Summit Credit Union has donated $15,000 to the East Madison Community Center (EMCC) to support the expansion of the Center’s health and fitness services for area children and their parents.

“Thanks to Summit’s generous support, we can provide area children and their parents with a more comprehensive approach to developing positive life-long health habits,” said Tom Moen, EMCC executive director. “From staffing and serving nutritious food to program promotion and purchasing gym equipment, Summit’s contributions have made a significant impact on this important program and the families we serve.”

The donation has enabled the EMCC to expand its health and fitness services to include the following programs:

* Nutrition – Each day, afterschool program participants received healthy snacks as well as a complete nutritious meal three times a week.

* Pre-teen & Teen Fitness Nights – twice a week, pre-teens and teens have the opportunity to engage in basketball, dodgeball, handball, dance classes and other age-appropriate activities.

* Fit-For-Life Adult Wellness – Weekly workshops led by a personal trainer for all fitness levels, including health & nutrition, yoga, tai chi, stress reduction and relaxation classes.

* Family Night – In collaboration with UW-Extension Nutrition program and the MATC Baking Club, families participated in hands-on activities & were introduced to healthy snack recipes.

* Diabetes Awareness Family Night – In partnership with the UW-School of Pharmacy, Access Community Health and Public Health, the educational program served nutritious meals and included free diabetic testing for children.

Summit Credit Union has been a supporter of EMCC for more than 25 years and was the recipient of the EMCC’s Community Partnership Award in 2008.
