Energize your wallet with home energy-efficiency projects

MADISON, WI – August 6, 2009 – In an effort to reach out to customers with energy-saving projects and ideas, Wisconsin Power and Light (WPL), an Alliant Energy company, is making its PowerHouse television shows available free of charge to libraries throughout Wisconsin. Aired on TV throughout the Midwest, PowerHouse is the energy-saving, money-saving program that shows homeowners how to make the most of their energy usage and save money.

For the last thirteen years, Alliant Energy’s PowerHouse television show has given homeowners practical advice on a wide variety of topics, including energy efficiency, conservation, safety and the environment. The show focuses on do-it-yourself projects, with demonstrations of simple improvements that any homeowner can tackle.

The complete set of 51 PowerHouse episodes is now being made available to libraries in the Alliant Energy service territory at no cost. Interested libraries can obtain the entire collection of PowerHouse episodes in DVD format by visiting http://www.alliantenergy.com/powerhousedvd. Each episode focuses on a variety of topics, like installing storm doors, choosing new appliances, building a green home and more.

In addition to the PowerHouse DVDs, libraries will receive a free portable energy meter from Alliant Energy. Library patrons can borrow the energy meter and determine how much electricity is consumed by the appliances in their home. Electric appliances can be plugged into the energy meter and it will assess how efficient (or wasteful) they really are. A large LCD display will show users the amount of electricity the appliance is using. This will allow users to calculate the annual operating costs of a specific appliance by the day, week, month or year.

There’s never been a better time to offer this energy-saving and money-saving information to homeowners. For more information on Alliant Energy’s PowerHouse program and energy-saving tips, visit powerhousetv.com .
