MILWAUKEE, July 2, 2009 — Walmart has announced it will sponsor a 2009 Military Recognition Day celebrating active duty servicemen, service women and military veterans during the Wisconsin State Fair. The special daylong event will be held Sunday, August 16.

Veterans and military personnel (active duty, guard and reserves) will receive a $3 discount off of the State Fair adult admission price with special coupons available at any of the 83 Walmart stores in Wisconsin. The coupons can be redeemed any day of the 2009 Wisconsin State Fair before 3 p.m. Thursday, August 6 – Sunday, August 16, in West Allis.

“It’s a way of saying ‘thank you’ to the thousands of veterans and current members of the military for the dedication and sacrifices that they and their families have made. Part of our corporate message includes the words ‘live better.’ Certainly, the contributions made by members of the military have helped all of us to do just that,” said Lisa B. Nelson, Walmart’s senior manager of public affairs.

She added the company is especially proud to be affiliated with the 2009 Wisconsin State Fair, “a premier attraction that symbolizes the personality and diversity of the state.”

“It’s a perfect combination, one that partners a celebration that attracts more than 850,000 visitors and Wisconsin’s largest private employer in recognizing past and present Wisconsin members of the military,” said Kathleen O’Leary, director of marketing and sponsorship for Wisconsin State Fair Park.

Walmart’s Military Personnel discount coupons for use during the Wisconsin State Fair will be available to those with valid military credentials at the customer service counters of all Wisconsin Walmart Stores beginning July 1 while supplies last.
