Silver Spring Foods, Eau Claire, WI. has purchased Kelchner’s Horseradish Products, Dublin, PA, to augment Bookbinder’s Foods, which they bought in 1999. The goal is to blend the strengths of two horseradish brands well known along the Atlantic Seaboard, according to Ed Schaefer, Silver Spring Foods CEO and president.

Schaefer said Kelchner’s Horseradish Products will remain in Dublin and previous owner John Slaymaker will continue as president. Kelchner’s products include horseradish, cocktail sauce, hot mustard with horseradish, tartar sauce and horseradish with beets. The company employs seventeen people full time and up to thirty during peak selling periods, at two facilities in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

“Kelchner’s refrigerated product line made with fresh ingredients complements our Bookbinder’s line of shelf-stable condiments and both well known companies will continue with a strong presence in the Northeastern markets,” Schaefer said. “The acquisition just makes sense for growing our condiment business. Kelchner’s shares our business philosophy, family values and vision for growth.”

Silver Spring Foods, Inc., the world’s largest horseradish grower and processor, is celebrating 80 years as a family-owned business. The company sells horseradish and mustard products through grocery chains and fine food stores worldwide and online at http://www.silverspringfoods.com.
