WEST BEND,WI April 2, 2009—- For Immediate Release—- The Museum of Wisconsin Art is pleased to announce a new evening program: THE MOMENT. Through a generous grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Mary L. Nohl Fund THE MOMENT is an evening dedicated to discussions and dialogues, which is held the fourth Thursday night, every other month. First in the series starting April 23rd, from 5-8 pm MWA will host the only Washington County screening of Faythe Levine’s documentary: Handmade Nation. This event is free with regular admission for non-members and members are always free. Children 12 and under are free.

Craft Night will showcase the screening of Handmade Nation, with a craft artist discussion following the film. Handmade Nation has sold-out at every venue across the nation, and is being screened internationally this month. The DIY movement has been chronicled by Milwaukeeans Faythe Levine and Courtney Heimerl in a book called Handmade Nation, and their documentary brings us into the workshops of crafters across the country. First-time director Levine, who also co-owns Paper Boat Gallery in Milwaukee, documents the movements of craft artists who mix traditional techniques with contemporary themes. Faythe Levine will be at MWA to discuss her work on the film and the wave craft that is capturing the attention of the nation.

Also that evening Lakefront Brewery (Milwaukee), will bring some new libations to sample. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the craft of brewing. Chef Dave Swanson of Braise-on-the-Go, a traveling culinary school, will be at MWA bringing local Wisconsin foods to enjoy. Swanson will discuss the Slow Food Movement, and its impact on Wisconsin.

The Museum of Wisconsin Art, Inc. is located at 300 S. Sixth Avenue in downtown West Bend’s Cultural District.
