Mulberry Lane Farm: Get firsthand experience with agriculture

According to a recent issue of the Wisconsin State Farmer, “young people today are further removed from agriculture and many of them no longer have grandparents or relatives to visit on a farm. They depend on school tours to farms to learn about agriculture.” (May 30, 2008, section C, pg 1)

At Mulberry Lane Farm (MLF) we provide this valuable firsthand experience. We believe our children are tomorrow’s future and that our children need to learn the value of farm animals and farming. Especially with the continuing rising cost of grain, corn, fuel, and food prices in general it is more important now than ever. MLF not only host school fieldtrips but is also open to the general public. Owner Patrick Keyes explains, “We’ve found parents and especially grandparents thoroughly enjoy showing their kids and grandkids what it was like growing up on a farm.” Patrick continues, “We have found that no matter the age or the background there is something about a farm that brings out the joy and worth in others.”

Today farming has become so specialized that you must go to a milking parlor to see a cow, a hog farm to see a pig, or a hatchery to see a chicken. At MLF you not only see but interact with all types of farm animals and therefore we stress that we are a petting farm not a petting zoo. A zoo implies you are on the outside of the pen looking in. At MLF you enter the pens enabling you to interact with animals. During the “hands-on” guided tour you will milk a cow, catch a chicken, kiss a pig, cuddle a kitten, ride a pony, enjoy a hayride and more!

Mulberry Lane Farm’s spring season begins May 6th. However, MLF is a seasonal operation so it is recommended to visit their website or call in advance for operating dates and times. http://www.mulberrylanefarmwi.com (920-989-3130)
