MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee Press Club today announced the winners of its 79th annual Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition, with the winners to be honored at the club’s April 24th Gridiron Award Dinner at the Italian Community Center.

The contest garnered nearly 400 entries from throughout Wisconsin in the professional division and 80 in the collegiate division. Contest winners are announced in advance of the awards banquet on the club’s website. Click here to be linked to the contest results.

The competition was judged by 25 professional media peers from press clubs throughout the U.S., including Phoenix, Cleveland, Dallas, East Bay, Florida, Houston, Michigan, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco Peninsula and Syracuse.

Also being honored at this year’s event is sports commentator and author Frank Deford as our Sacred Cat award winner. The Headliner award will be presented to Michael Grebe, president and chief executive officer of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation and chairman of the Greater Milwaukee Committee; and to Gwen Jackson, chair emeritus of the American Red Cross of Southeastern Wisconsin and volunteer on more than two dozen boards and committees. Headliner Awards are bestowed annually to people who are in the news and are making a positive difference in Milwaukee.
