Wellspring Wisconsin: Wisconsin summer camp helps kids lose weight and adopt healthier lifestyles

Adventure-filled weight loss program is now enrolling campers for summer sessions

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (February 20, 2009) — Imagine spending the summer hiking the trails and canoeing the rivers of Governor Dodge and Yellowstone state parks. Wellspring Wisconsin, among the most effective weight loss programs for teens, is offering campers the opportunity to enjoy these activities while learning how to live healthier lifestyles. The summer program is now enrolling campers for four-, six- and eight-week sessions, which begin June 14.

Designed exclusively for boys and girls ages 11-18, Wellspring Wisconsin teaches campers how to achieve long-term weight loss success during a fun-filled summer vacation on campus at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville. Campers lose an average of four pounds per week by learning how to prepare low-fat meals and achieving 10,000 steps a day through walks, hikes and a variety of outdoor activities such as biking, fly fishing, racquetball, swimming and aerobics.

“Wellspring’s program is based on years of scientific research,” said Dr. Daniel Kirschenbaum, Clinical Director of Wellspring. “Unlike traditional ‘fat camps,’ Wellspring combines diet and activity management with cognitive-behavioral therapy to help campers develop the skills necessary to lose weight and maintain success after returning home.”

According to the Department of Public Instruction, more than 24 percent of Wisconsin high school students are overweight or obese.* Due to the current economy and rising obesity rates, Wellspring is offering an early enrollment discount and is establishing partnerships with corporate partners for scholarship offers. Campers who submit their applications before April 1, with the promo code “EARLY,” will save $500.
