MADISON, Wis. (June 4, 2009) — TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS™) praises President Obama’s decision to re-appoint Robert M. McDowell for a second term as Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission.

The following statement can be attributed to Drew Petersen, director of legislative affairs and corporate communications for TDS.

“We applaud President Obama’s decision to re-appoint Rob McDowell to a second term as Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Mr. McDowell has demonstrated expert policy leadership over the course of his first term as Commissioner and is certainly deserving of a second term in this critical communications leadership position at the FCC.

“Commissioner McDowell believes strongly in independent critical thinking and has approached communications policy and regulatory oversight as a critical check-and-balance to ensure our country is headed on the right public policy path as we move forward.

“Mr. McDowell believes advances in communications technology can stimulate economic development and commerce, can put people back to work, and can improve efficiency in our professional and personal lives. TDS agrees with this philosophy and looks forward to working with FCC Commissioner McDowell upon his confirmation.”
