Ruffin’ It Resort: DOGA -- Yoga for you and your dog 1/8/2009 WHO: Ruffin’ It Resort and Harbor Wellness Center WHERE: Ruffin’ It Resort, 635 Struck Street, Madison WHEN: Saturday, January 10 @ noon and Sunday, January 18 @ 3P Human MEDIA CONTACT: Renee Brantner Shanesy, Ruffin’ It Resort, ‘Top Dog’ 310.4299 renee@ruffinitresort.com Dog MEDIA CONTACT: Simba, Canine Ambassador of Ruffin’ It Resort, simba@ruffinitresort.com WHY, you ask?: It’s invigorating & relaxing, bonding with your dog, and FUN! What’s HOT in New York and LA has arrived in Madison: DOGA, partner yoga for the canine and their ‘parent’. Ruffin’ It Resort (owner Renee Brantner Shanesy) is hosting two introductory DOGA classes with certified Yoga Instructor Courtney Weis, Director of Harbor Wellness Center. The 45 minute classes, with an introductory rate of $12 for pet parent and pooch, focus on the bonding experience between owner and dog. Relaxation, massage, stretching and various yoga and doga poses will be taught to soothing serenity music. Owner and dog will work as a team, learning from and working off of one another. Dogs have been doing DOGA on their own for years (where do you think the yoga terms ‘up dog’ and downward dog’ came from?)…so why not combine the two? You’ll learn to honor yourself and your dog and be respectful of both your bodies, all while having a relaxing and invigorating experience. In preparation for the class, both Courtney and Renee practiced with their own pooches (Nut, Nala and Simba) who were surprisingly amenable to the opportunity. They also researched this new phenomenon. Experts in Canine Massage (Kathy Thomack, trained canine massage provider) and a canine acupuncturist also assisted with the education process. Courtney’s extensive experience with human yoga is a necessary and valuable asset to the program as well. Who knows, maybe your pooch will become a ‘dogi’ dog! |
