BuyCostumes.com: Social Trends and Political Changes Clearly Affect Costume Sales
MILWAUKEE, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the release of "The Passion of the Christ" on February 24, 2004, BuyCostumes.com has noticed a huge increase in sales and orders from the Jesus wigs and beards to Easter Bunny costumes. They had to reorder more Biblical and Easter Bunny costumes in the beginning of March, which they thought would last throughout the season.
BuyCostumes.com has had an 86% increase in sales with biblical costumes and an 81% increase in sales with Easter Bunny costumes. The most popular costumes are the Jesus Wig and Beard and the Deluxe Easter Bunny.
Can these social trends really increase sales for the costume industry? Jalem Getz, the President of BUYSEASONS, Inc., the parent company of BuyCostumes.com and Deal.com, thinks it can. "Social trends and political changes clearly affect costume sales. This includes the movie 'The Passion of the Christ,' released in February," says Getz.
Not only has BuyCostumes.com seen an increase in biblical costume sales from the "The Passion of the Christ," but also with the Presidential election coming very soon, their mask sales are on the rise. Back in 2000, BuyCostumes.com began publishing statistics on each Presidential Candidate's mask sales and had a poll for visitors to vote for their favorite political mask. It was soon apparent that the mask sales were as predictive as the polls being published by major national media groups.
BuyCostumes.com then looked into some data on political mask sales in election years. Their findings were astounding. In 2000, October mask sales of George W. Bush led those of Al Gore's masks 57% to 43%; in 1996: Clinton 56% and Dole masks 40%. The BuyCostumes.com Presidential Mask Poll is BACK for 2004! (For more information check out the election 04' at www.buycostumes.com .)
How do you explain this phenomenon? "The person that they're voting for is the person they want to be when they dress up," says Jalem Getz.
