BELLEVILLE, Wis. (July 30, 2008) – As it turns out, Tiger Woods isn’t the only premier athlete to have recently fought through a debilitating knee injury for a victory. Despite a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Shana Martin of Madison Wis. won the 2008 World Log Rolling and Boom Running Championship on July 27 in Hayward, Wis. Sponsored by Duluth Trading Company, a leading men’s and women’s catalog and online apparel company based in Belleville, Wis., Martin was determined to push through her pain to beat the top female lumberjack athletes in the country.

Inspiring women from across the U.S., Martin has been recognized by Duluth Trading Company as a “Duluth Real Woman,” and will be featured in the company’s upcoming catalog which showcases a creative and functional line of “seriously usable stuff for women.” The Duluth Trading Women’s catalog, which will be in homes in late August, will include purposeful clothing, gear and more designed for self-reliant women who are passionate about their jobs and hobbies.

According to Suzanne Harms, director of marketing for Duluth Trading Company, customers rely on Duluth Trading for tradesman-tested clothing and gear, and women are no exception. “We have taken our expertise in developing high-quality, durable, purposeful men’s workwear and developed an unprecedented women’s line that has been tested by active and passionate women who love a challenge, want to be outside, and enjoy getting a little dirty -- whether they’re training horses, working on their homes or in their gardens, or even rolling logs,” says Harms. “Shana Martin is a great example of a ‘Duluth Real Woman,’ she is an inspirational and fearless competitor in and out of the water and we’re very proud to be a partner on her unique journey.”

Martin, a professional fitness competitor and personal trainer, is a tireless advocate for Huntington’s Disease, a degenerative and incurable brain disorder which affects her mother. “Duluth Trading Company has been a terrific supporter of my sport and my charitable efforts,” says Martin. “Their gear and clothing are great and provide superior comfort, fit and functionality like no other brand.”

In addition to featuring Martin, the Duluth Trading Company fall catalog highlights several “Duluth Real Women” with distinctive stories to showcase unique products in lieu of professional models. From female aviators to organic farmers to construction managers, “Duluth Real Women” also make up a panel to test products, share insights, and make recommendations during the product development phase.

“Our commitment to designing tough products designed to fit women and our relationship with the authentic and remarkable women who test, model and use our products are areas of differentiation for the Duluth Women’s brand,” says Harms.

Duluth Trading’s fall women's catalog will feature women’s products with built-in solutions including the company’s signature Fire Hose® canvas work pants (made from tough canvas inspired by the kind that once protected actual fire hoses), Asset Management Pants (no-gap waistband fits curves, won’t reveal any “assets”), fun and functional accessories, footwear, jackets and hard-working overalls designed with women in mind to help them perform at optimal levels.

About Duluth Trading Company

Duluth Trading Company was founded in 1991 by two tradesmen brothers tired of making do with inadequate job site equipment. Their first catalog included just nine tool organizers, all field-tested for practicality by grizzly construction guys and hard-as-nails tradesmen. Since then, Duluth has expanded its offering to include hundreds of unique clothing items, tool and car organizers and gadgets, and in 2005 introduced a women’s-specific line of work wear, casual clothing and gear. Men’s products are still “designed and tested by tradesmen,” while the women’s line is “tested and approved by Real Women” – all testers are individuals with hands-on occupations who know a good – or bad – product when they see one. Signature products include the men’s Longtail T® (the cure for “plumber butt”), men’s Ballroom Jeans (with a comfy crotch gusset for crouching without singing soprano), women’s Asset Management Pants and men’s and women’s exclusive Fire Hose® Workwear. Initially headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, Duluth Trading Company is now located in Belleville, Wisconsin to accommodate its staff, customer-friendly call center and 70,000-square-foot warehouse.
