Erie Insurance Group Extends Special Consideration to Policyholders Affected by Weather Emergency in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin

ERIE, Pa., June 24 /PRNewswire/ — As a result of the weather related emergency in the states of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, and in response to concerns expressed by several state insurance departments, Erie Insurance is implementing temporary changes to its policies and payment plans to assist policyholders who have been adversely affected by the recent storms.

“We work hard to do right by our policyholders, especially in severe weather situations like our Midwest states have experienced,” notes John J. Brinling, Jr., president and CEO of Erie Insurance Group. “In keeping with our founding philosophy of being ‘Above All in Service,’ we have extended provisions, including grace periods, beyond what is requested or required by the various state insurance departments. We remain both flexible and reasonable and react positively and creatively to adjust to situations on a case-by-case basis.”

Effective immediately, ERIE will implement the following changes:

— Affected policyholders will have an additional 75 days to pay any bills, report a loss, file a claim or take other actions required under their policies.

— While ERIE will continue to send bills and late notices during the 75-day grace period, we will not issue any cancellation or nonrenewal notices to affected Policyholders during this timeframe. In addition, ERIE will also withdraw any cancellation or nonrenewal notices that have been issued to affected policyholders since May 30, 2008 in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

— Policyholders requiring repairs on affected property which cannot be completed within a required time frame will be provided an extension of 75 days.

While these temporary changes do not relieve policyholders of their responsibility to pay premiums and otherwise comply with insurance policy provisions, they are designed to assist in the recovery process following these unprecedented weather events.

In addition to these measures, ERIE will work with policyholders on an individual basis to ensure that their needs are met. Policyholders who suffered damage from the recent weather events are encouraged to call their Erie Insurance agent or our office at 1-800-458-0811.
