Wisconsin Alternatives to Government Health Care Takeover

National Experts Discuss Healthy Choices for Reform

MANITOWOC – Is government-run health care the answer for health care in Wisconsin? Or, are there free-market solutions that will empower patient choices and preserve quality?

On Thursday, a panel of experts including Steven Moore, senior economics writer from The Wall Street Journal, will tackle the topic in Manitowoc at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. The forum is open to the public and media. The forum is sponsored by WMC, Americans for Prosperity and NFIB-Wisconsin.

Wisconsin drew national attention last year when the state Senate passed a $15.2 billion annual government-run health care plan. The plan – which covered residents up to 64 with no work requirement – would have been funded with the largest tax increase of any state in U.S. history.

Moore will be presenting his view on the growing costs of healthcare along with State Representative Leah Vukmir (R-Wauwatosa) of the Assembly Health and Healthcare Reform Committee. Also presenting will be Gerald Frye, president of Benefit Services Group. Frye will discuss alternatives to government-run health care that businesses are exploring.
