International experts to lead June 19 half-day workshop for government and business leaders

APPLETON, Wis. (June 9, 2008) – Local government and business leaders from across Wisconsin will learn how to build sustainability into their communities and businesses on June 19 at a special half-day workshop hosted in Appleton by engineering and planning firm Foth of Green Bay. The 2008 Conference on Sustainability: Balancing People, Planet and Profit is tailored to chief elected officials, board members and department heads of local and regional units of government, and senior executives, directors and business leaders.

Award-winning international sustainability experts and authors Sarah James and Torbjorn Lahti, who co-authored the widely cited book about how to build sustainability into communities, “The Natural Step for Communities,” will speak at the event. Bob Willard, author of “The Sustainability Advantage,” will speak about corporate strategies and how sustainability can have bottom line benefits for businesses. In addition, Foth experts will also lead workshops in their areas of practice.

Attendees will learn about sustainability and how they can incorporate sustainable practices and policies into their organizations. This hands-on, interactive conference will:

· Define what sustainability is (and is not).

· Provide specific examples of the benefits.

· Explain how to increase the value and success of their organizations by integrating sustainability into business plans.

· Identify market forces that could jeopardize intangible value if they don’t incorporate sustainability.

· Quantify seven potential financial bottom-line benefits of committing to sustainability strategies and behaviors.

· Provide workshops and networking opportunities for attendees.

Foth is a leader in sustainability, with a strong history rooted in protecting and enhancing the environment, including designing and securing funding for many of the early wastewater treatment facilities in Wisconsin. Today, all of Foth’s work in areas of solid waste management/recycling, water and wastewater systems, community planning and sediment remediation reflects a strong commitment to making Wisconsin a great place to live, work and play today and in the future.

“We’re proud to host this educational seminar in Wisconsin,” says Fred P. Schnook, MPA, lead planner at Foth. “Our strongest desire is to help our clients and leaders in Wisconsin on their journey toward sustainability. We know government and business leaders are facing growing pressure to be economically strong while simultaneously combating the effects of global factors beyond their control. This seminar will help attendees discover how good leadership decisions, rooted in sustainable principles, can help deliver benefits to society, the economy and the environment here in Wisconsin.”

The conference will take place Thursday, June 19, at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel and Conference Center in Appleton. To register, please visit http://www.foth.com or contact Jim Loreti at 920-496-6740.
