MADISON, WI — Today Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, and Madison Gas & Electric (MGE) announced that they propose to invest in 300 megawatts (MW) of new solar generation to be built at two sites in Wisconsin: 150MW near Two Rivers, WI and150MW near Dodgeville, WI.

In response, Sierra Club Campaign Representative Elizabeth Katt Reinders released the following statement:

“Wisconsin is only beginning to scratch the surface in capitalizing on solar energy potential in our state. These projects are a big step toward bringing the cost savings and job opportunities that solar power can provide to Wisconsin residents. We need to transition beyond coal and other fossil fuels to electricity powered by 100% clean energy. We commend WPS and MGE for their investment in our state’s future and committing to new clean energy development in Wisconsin, where Wisconsinites will reap the benefits. We are hopeful that these announcements are just the beginning.

“These solar investments, along with Alliant Energy’s recent proposal to build 150MW of wind in Iowa to serve Wisconsin customers, demonstrates that clean energy is the best solution for Wisconsin.”
